Origins

In the early 1900's Nationalism of the different racial groups in the Balkan region began to rise and Serbia led the march to form ethnic states. Unfortunately in 1908 the foes of the Balkan region, the Austria-Hungary Empire, annexed the territories of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The great empire inevitably ignored the Serb minority. Serbia decided to take action and threatened to invade Bosnia and Herzegovina to liberate the seven million ethnic serbs in the territory. The empire decided to take precautionary measures to make sure there would be no uprising or revolutions in the area. In essence, serbian nationalists felt that the Empire was hindering their ethnic unity. One in particular felt this way, Dragutin Dimitrijevic, the Chief of intelligence of the Serbian Army. He founded the Black Hand in 1911.
